Silent Discos and Parties
Summer is here and for many this means nights out, summer dance anthems and nights spent throwing shapes to the biggest tunes on the biggest sound systems. From trance to hardcore, the tunes are massive and the beats are fast but if like me you are getting a bit bored with clubs and the lack of variety between them then you might want to keep your eye open for a silent disco or event happening near you.
If you are heading to any summer festivals then you might also want to check the programme for any silent discos taking place once the bands finish, because the beauty of the silent disco is… the SILENCE, so the discos very cleverly avoid raising noise pollution issues particularly late at night when more conventional discos would be stopped.
What is a silent disco I hear you calling… well they are also called headphone discos, any idea yet? That’s right at these events everybody wears their own pair of headphones and listens to the DJ (or DJs) via sets of wireless headphones. Imagine the scene, a whole room of people dancing (to potentially different tunes) and what’s more dancing in silence, well not quite silence. If you take off your headphones you will be greeted by the sound of the crowd singing along to the tunes!
These events have been a long-time favourite of student unions, ask any friends at uni and they will tell you all about the fun silent parties that have graced the quads and halls of universities across the UK. You don’t have to be a student though to enjoy a silent disco as their popularity is continuing to grow and nowadays you can find them at festivals, bars and clubs, get enough friends together and you could even organise your own silent event!
There are some great musical events happening this summer, the best DJs in the world are descending on the festivals and clubs of Europe so get ready to dance this summer, dig out your whistle and glowstick if want to kick it old school and get ready to dance to all the biggest tunes but just not always at the loudest volume!
If you are not yet convinced then check out You Tube for some great videos of people enjoying silent discos, one look at the wild dancing and grinning faces should tell you that everybody is having the time of their lives.
